My reading
Book club discussed The Angry Women's Choir this week. It was enjoyed by everyone and a good discussion about the numerous characters with their own stories and struggles, life lessons, family dynamics and of course the choir at the centre.
The themes are female empowerment, relationships and being true to yourself.
Now I am reading an advance copy of The Thinning by Inga Simspon, out in October. It's set in a future where environmental impacts are affecting our way of life and people are competing for resources. We follow a family living off grid, surviving in the bush and hiding from what remains of society. It is scarily believable and deals with many issues that are facing us now.
It is described as a literary thriller / psychological suspense.
Plenty of good books to get stuck into as the weather warms up. September in Yass brings wattle, cherry blossoms, the Irish and Celtic Festival, Council elections and the Railway Museum Artisan Market kicks off again at the end of September.
I hope to see you at Goulburn Bookfest, the Benjamin Stevenson event in Yass, in the shop or around town :-)
