I am so excited to be taking over the wonderful local business Paper Parrot. Anne has run the online business from her home in Yass for the past 9 years and it has many loyal customers around the country and even overseas.
There are synchronicities between The Yass Book Store and Paper Parrot with both stores focusing on Australian products, quality and all things arty. We both stock beautiful Australian art calendars, cards, notebooks, gift wrap, books and bookmarks.
Stationery, cats, birds, Australian artists - yep, it was meant to be. Anne will be helping me for the next few weeks to make sure it continues to run smoothly.
Sign up to the newsletter at the bottom of the website if you would like to hear about new stock, specials and more. Paper Parrot offers free delivery to 2582 postcode and now also pick-up in the bookshop.
2025 Calendars
The 2025 Blue Island calendars will arrive soon - I know; 2025!
These are the lovely, arty ones printed on quality paper and made in Australia. People are pre-ordering them online already, especially the ever popular Cressida Campbell.
Other calendars and diaries will follow over the next few months. Get in early and order your favourite so you don't miss out!
EOFY sale
We'll be having a sale in the last week of June, on books and stationery in the bookshop and online, to make room for Paper Parrot and for more new books.
Events
Our next event is Sandie Docker at the Lawn Tennis Club in Yass. Her new book The Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir is out this week. Good Vibes Choir will be there to sing a few songs and we'll have a morning tea, book sales and author signing.
RSVP for this free event - Sunday 14th July 11am
We also have events for Margaret Hickey and Benjamin Stevenson booked for the coming months, so keep an eye out for those!
I'll be selling books at Goulburn Library for their author events with:
Lauren Chater - The Winter Dress and The Beauties Thursday 18 July - Goulburn Library
Julie Bennett - The Lost Letter of Rose Carey and The Understudy Thursday 1 August - Goulburn Library
June new releases
In the shop
I am still moving things around in the shop to make it easier to get around and to make it a more relaxing space. It's a shame we can't do much about the entrance steps, I looked at ramps to improve accessibility but due to the steepness, a ramp would be long and heavy.
The Yass Repertory Society has 2 comedies showing in The Liberty Theatre next to the bookshop, in June. Each Fri and Sat evening at 8pm until 22 June. Tickets from the Yass Information Centre.
Yass Valley Cat Rescue are still getting kittens in - 3 more black and 2 Siamese-looking kittens are with a foster carer now.
I have Banjo a gorgeous soft, gentle but timid, ginger boy at my place at the moment.
The other distraction in our lives this year is our Grandson Gianni, now 7 months old. He will be road testing my children's book selections. We have enjoyed the black and white board books in his early months and are now moving on to colourful but indestructable books :-)
I am in Melbourne for the BookPeople (Bookseller Association) conference this weekend. I can't wait to find out about new titles that will be coming out between now and the end of the year and to catch up with other booksellers and publishers.
I hope you get a chance to come in for our sale, or to shop online. There will be bargains to be had!
Jo
