Winter arrives

As the leaves change colour and fall and it gets cooler (a lot cooler), the shop has been a bit quiet. Several of the local cafes have been closed due to difficulties getting staff and I also had a period of isolation, as a close contact. Covid is definitely still doing the rounds with many sick or isolating and the flu season is also upon us.

It hasn't all been doom and gloom, the school holidays were fun, lots of travelers passing through and locals stocking up on puzzles and activity books for children. Most excitedly though was last weekend's event with local poet Lizz Murphy. She read several of her poems from The Wear of Her Face, along with readings by other local writers Victoria McGrath and Jane Baker. Peter Rose read from Henry Lawson and Daniel Kelly played an emotive song for us. It was a lovely afternoon.

We are planning a book launch for Jane Baker's new book soon.

Envelope workshop

I am holding a fun workshop in May on making and decorating envelopes.

I use envelopes made from magazine pages and other scrap paper for letter writing and to store photos and other mementos. They are great in journals to store tickets and other little bits and pieces.

I will provide plain and patterned paper, stickers and other materials to make and decorate your own unique envelopes. It will be a relaxed, fun afternoon with a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat included. All ages are welcome.

Awards

The 2022 Stella Prize was awarded to Evelyn Araluen for her poetry book Dropbear.

New in the shop

We now stock Bush Journal, a lovely newspaper type format with stories, recipes and wonderful photos.

I am looking forward to the next edition of Oak Magazine, out at the end of May.

You can see the latest new release books on the website and in the shop.

We are planning a shelf of recommended books for the shop, to help you choose your next read. Helen, Cecelia and I will recommend our faves and include the Last Wednesday Book Club reads too.

If you've read something you'd recommend let us know. Write a short review and get 10% off your next purchase.

Best sellers in April

Still Life by Sarah Winmar

Dancing with Dandelions by Kelly Cameron

Love Stories by Trent Dalton

and our tiny notebooks from Japan in various colours at $1.99 each.

Stay warm and well.

Jo
